Economic Migration – Key findings 2025

In 2025 economic migration will continue, offering opportunities for skilled talent and for companies in Belgium in order to solve their skilled labor shortage.
We are glad to share some interesting key findings for 2025:

Talent Shortage
With a stricter regulation and control on specific employment categories, Belgium remains focussed on attracting the necessary skilled workers from within and from outside the EU.

This is certainly the case in different sectors such as technology, engineering, IT, logistics, research, healthcare and finance.
Next to the traditional “highly skilled” employment categories, the regions in Belgium continue to have their own criteria to allow also Non-EU workers to be employed in bottleneck professions in Belgium.
Important! New salary thresholds per region for Non-EU workers are applicable as from January 1, 2025.

EU mobility
Within the European Union, remote, flexible and temporary working across Europe will continue to be a key driver for economic migration for many companies.
Important! Legal compliance within migration and social security law remains an important challenge for HR & mobility departments.

Cultural integration
Belgian government and employers are emphasizing the importance of Integration programs and language skills for economic migrants and their families.
Important! Make sure your employees gain benefit from training programs on “Cultural integration”, both on the work floor as in daily life.
